Yes, I can access the CF Administrator now. The Task manager shows this:
My concern now is that it takes 13-15 minutes for CF to start up, much longer than the "service" will let it (it seems to time out when starting it as a service).

It seems like it, took 12 minutes approx from registering PDFgServlet till start.

Since the Service never actually starts, that option does not trigger. Is there anything I can set so I can see what is happening in that 12 minutes interim between those 2 steps?

Carl, that is for the new CF11 PDF features I believe. It's one of the reasons we want to go with CF11. If however we can't figure this out soon, we will be going with CF10.

ColdFusion and IIS both should have same bitness. If CF is installed in 64-bit mode, then change the App pool (Enable 32 bit applications” set to false) under Advanced Settings. Remove the connector and recreate it.
Once done, launch command prompt as administrator and try iisreset command. Now you can test your site/CF Admin.

To remove/recreate the connector. Launch the Web Server Configuration Tool as admin, from the Start>>All Programs menu, and delete the existing connector and then recreate it.

Karl, is your problem still happening?
If so, are you sure that your web site (is it IIS) is set so that the CFIDE it points to is the one inside CF11? We see from the screenshot you shared that inside the stack trace it points to the page as running in some /CFIDE folder (as if it’s the root of a file system—and it’s odd, because there’s no drive reference, which would be there normally on Windows.)
Normally, it should point to the coldfusion11\cfusion\wwwroot\CFIDE folder, which is where CF11 puts that folder by default. If your web site is pointing at some other folder for that, it could simply be that your Admin was using a different version of code for that mail settings page than CF11 is expecting you to use.

Cannot access ColdFusion 9 Admin after domain admin password change
Hi,
We have a CF 9 multiserver setup that's been running quite nicely for the past year. Recently, a domain admin password changed cocked up our IIS, which we got working by changing the admin passwords for each app pool within IIS 7.
Since then, though, I can't access the main CF Admin page, which gives a 404. I can access the admin pages for the multiple sites by visiting the internal IP of the server and specifying a port (192.168.xxx.xxx:8301, 192.168.xxx.xxx:8302, etc), but if I try and do this for the main CF Admin site (port 8300) again, I get a 404.
The guy who set our server up is long gone, and although I know enough about CF to keep things running, this has got me stumped.
I'm convinced the problem lies with IIS, but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience of such a problem?

Yes definitely. The initial issue was due to a bad connector (seems like). For Service unavailable, can you refer to ColdFusion 11 IIS Connector Tuning — Adobe ColdFusion Blog. This blog holds good for both ColdFusion 10 and ColdFusion 11.

How weird, the CFIDE folder was gone from this location. I've restored it from a back-up and all seems to be working properly now... thanks so much for the speedy response, Anit.

I pulled the neo-mail file from a different server...but unfortunately our servers are already syncing between each other, and the other two servers have the same potentially bad file.
We will re-install CF into the default folder on C:, then we'll try this again.
